Guatemala - Pacaya Volcano (our first active volcano)

Pacaya Volcano

After making the rounds in Central America (Chiapas, Eastern Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador), we returned to the Central Highlands of Guatemala.  Two of our best friends, Daniel and Kayla, came to visit us for a week, and we really enjoyed showing them around and sharing a bit of our routine down here.  We all thoroughly enjoyed the sunny weather on Lake Atitlan and rounded of their visit with a trip to Antigua.  From Antigua, Daniel, Philip and I decided to ascend the Pacaya Volcano outside of Antigua.  Pacaya is an active volcano that last erupted in 2010 (some area residents were evacuated in late July due to increased activity...).

From this mirador you can see the town of San Vicente Pacaya, Volcano de Agua, the active volcano Fuego and the double humped volcano Acatenango.
